Job Description

NEVER DO THIS ON AN INTERVIEW

The ultimate master list of DO NOTS for an interview.

DO NOT FORGET

  • To bring your resume
  • To bring your references
  • To brush your teeth
  • To wash / put on deodorant
  • To floss
  • To check for boogers!
  • To Breathe
  • To be ON TIME
  • To relax (don’t sweat, like seriously try not to be sweaty and give your self extra time to get there)
  • To study the job description
  • To study the company
  • To know the interviewer
  • To listen
  • To actually answer the questions
  • To ask questions
  • To make eye contact
  • To wear clothes that are presentable but comfortable
  • Stay home if you are sick (as for a zoom interview)
  • To drink (not too much) water beforehand
  • To relieve your bladder before the interview
  • To be confident but also humble
  • To BE YOURSELF
  • To represent yourself and your abilities with clarity and transparency

DO NOT EVER

  • Put your feet on the desk
  • Wear shoes with no socks
  • Wear sandals
  • Interrupt
  • Chew Gum
  • Bring a sandwich
  • Smell like a sandwich
  • Make tacky jokes
  • Stare out the window
  • Stare at the ground
  • Stare at anything
  • Pick your nose
  • Burp
  • Cough
  • Release Gas (including silent ones)
  • Sneeze 🙂 (try not to)
  • Swear (even if they are)
  • Show weakness
  • Show overconfidence
  • Act intimidating
  • Pretend to know something you do not
  • Drink too much coffee
  • Drink Red Bull
  • Drink Alcohol
  • Yell, Fight, Hit, Scream
  • Over-Share
  • Under-Share
  • Ask your interviewer on a date
  • Act inappropriate
  • Get too personal

But seriously – all you really need to remember is to BE YOUR SELF.  Because while you may be able to pretend for 60 minutes, you won’t be able to pretend for 6 years, so if you want a long term job – be yourself and then you’ll really know – and they will really know – if this is a fit.
