It’s fascinating to see how recruitment agencies continue to deploy recruiters into markets like AEC / REDEV with shady tactics that defy logic.

One of our candidates informed us several weeks back that when they asked another recruiter where their resume had been sent, they were met with the answer “Everywhere.” Period. No elaboration. This happens time and time again, where job seekers are forced to comply with a lack of transparency and put full trust into recruiters whose only goal is to play the numbers game and get their resume to as many willing receivers as possible!

Never misinterpret the power gradient between you and your recruiter. They need you. We need you. Your resume is YOURS.

Always ask your recruiters to provide you with a list of every company to which they plan to send your resume, and tell them that you must provide explicit verbal or written consent before sending to any one company. These are best practices, don’t let them tell you otherwise. Wouldn’t you rather work with a recruiter who trusts you and trusts their own clients? Recruiters are meant to work in partnership with you.
